Today, we are most likely to save everything in our personal online storage, this is due to the flexibility of viewing or downloading the file from any device. The ease of not having to carry around a physical storage device (like a USB drive or a portable hard drive), and also not having the worry of losing it while you are on a journey is certainly a situation that you want to have. The iPERMS Army can help a person in keeping his records safe.
What is iPERMS?
iPERMS is short for Interactive Personnel Records Management System, basically, it is an online information system/database used by the Army to store and manage military personnel records. Apart from having the flexibility of accessing files on different government-based computers, the iPERMS is also designed to eliminate unit-level stockpile paperwork. In conclusion, iPERMS simplifies a personnel’s entire records management process.

Managing iPERMS
Some say that having iPERMS is better than keeping physical records or an offline storage system. Army personnel or NCOs (Non-Commissioned Officers) that proactively manage their files can have a positive impact on their careers.
Here are a few tips to manage your iPERMS:
1. Check iPERMS Once a Month
Preferably on the first day of each month, check your iPERMS files and review it at least once a month. See if there are any new documents added or removed, find mistakes and resolve them. Checking the files once a year can pile up your work, or maybe too late to fix.
2. Know Your iPERMS Manager
At a minimum, you should know who is responsible for managing files in your unit. Once you found out, introduce yourself and set an appointment to learn about the iPERMS process. Treat them nicely and have a healthy working relationship.
3. Submit New Files Once You Receive Them
Submit important files such as an award and evaluation report through your S1 channels. After 2 – 3 weeks, check to see if it is uploaded to the iPERMS. If not, you need to follow up with your iPERMS manager consistently by call or email. You can also have your Company Commander or first-line supervisor assist you.
That concludes the brief explanation about the iPERMS Army. Paperwork can sometimes be tiring, but you must follow the process in order to be great personnel. Having your documents updated will most likely have a positive impact.
